Staff Writer – PUBLIC SECTOR TITLES 

Basic salary: £18,500 - £24,000 dependent on skills and experience, plus year end bonus.

The Role

As staff writer, you’ll be working closely with the managing editor and assistant editor to plan and write editorial content across a portfolio of publications and digital platforms.

You’ll be writing and editing a wide range of articles from news analysis to features and interviews as well as research pieces. You’ll work to maintain and strengthen our brands’ position as the leading, agenda-setting titles in their sectors.

You’ll also be expected to attend meetings, interviews, conferences and events, develop key industry and sector contacts, plan and research articles, and write to deadline.

Finally, reader events are proving to be a popular extension of our print and online content, so the successful candidate will be involved in steering the content for seminars and sourcing relevant speakers.

This role is fast-moving and varied, so you’ll need to be excellent at working under pressure and to tight deadlines. You should also be a fast learner, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for doing things well.

Personality-wise, we’re looking for a positive, outgoing person with a can-do attitude who can develop and maintain good relationships with sector contacts.

About You

You will have:

  • Minimum 18 months’ experience in journalism, ideally in a B2B environment
  • Excellent subediting and proofing skills
  • Proven experience interviewing experts (in person or over the phone)
  • Experience working on a range of platforms including print and digital
  • Experience generating feature ideas and writing engaging, creative intros
  • Ability to manage multiple short and long-term deadlines and projects
  • Ability to write in-depth articles on a range of sometimes technical and complex subjects
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of the health or education sectors would be an advantage but not essential.
